Hispania TP52 Wins the Trofeo Conde de Godó OOA on Its Debut

In a statement debut on the Mediterranean racing circuit, Hispania TP52 (Ex Vesper TP52) claimed overall victory in the ORC 0 class at the 53rd Trofeo de Vela Conde de Godó OOA, organised by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona — one of the most prestigious offshore regattas in the Mediterranean.

Against the stunning backdrop of the Barcelona skyline — with the Sagrada Família rising unmistakably on the horizon — Hispania demonstrated the kind of consistent, controlled sailing that wins regattas on corrected time. The boat led the ORC 0 class from the second day of racing onward, building an advantage it would not relinquish through to the final gun.

The four-day regatta, held from May 28–31 in the waters off Barcelona's coast, attracted a highly competitive fleet of offshore racing yachts. For a boat competing at this level for the first time under this campaign, the win is all the more remarkable.

“Racing in front of Barcelona, with the city as your backdrop — there’s nowhere else like it. To win here, on debut, means everything.”

Building to the Top

Hispania did not arrive at the top of the leaderboard by accident. After the opening day of racing — which the official report described as delivering “spectacular battles” across all classes — the crew moved into the ORC 0 lead on day two and held it through the closing races. Consistency across all legs of the course, combined with smart tactical choices upwind and in the light airs that marked parts of the series, proved to be the winning formula.

The regatta forms part of the broader OOA (One Ocean Alliance) racing calendar and represents one of the most storied events on the Spanish sailing circuit. The 53rd edition maintained that legacy, with the ORC fleet delivering some of the most compelling racing seen in Barcelona in recent years.

A Landmark Result

For the programme behind Hispania, this is a result that validates this new campaign. A debut victory at a regatta with a 53-year history — organised by one of Spain’s oldest and most respected yacht clubs — puts the boat and its team firmly on the map for the season ahead.

The wider fleet produced its own stories across the classes. In the offshore BCN Race Musto, Gratia and HYDRA HM Hospitales took class victories in an edition marked by light winds and long stretches of strategic sailing toward Palamós. But in Barcelona, in the waters that matter most to Spanish offshore racing, it was Hispania that stood tallest.
