Close competition, changing conditions, and a leaderboard that remained impossible to predict until the very end.

The Cape 31 UK fleet delivered another spectacular weekend of racing in Poole Bay, with close competition, changing conditions, and a leaderboard that remained impossible to predict right up until the final gun. With 5 Different winners from 5 Different races, it was great to see the rest of the fleet stepping up the challenge laid down by Khumbu in Round 1, however consistency was key and despite not winning a race, Khumbu managed to take out bragging rights for round 2.

Day 1: Sunshine, Breeze and Tight Racing
What began as a lighter forecast quickly developed into a fantastic afternoon on the water, with more breeze than expected and sunshine throughout. The opening two races were sailed in lighter conditions before a significant wind shift required a course reset.
The adjustment proved worthwhile, setting up two further races in a strengthening sea breeze that built steadily to 13–15 knots by the end of the day. Lead changes were a feature of every race, different boats took race victories, and positions continued to change right up to the finish line.

"After four races, just two points separated the top four teams — leaving everything to play for heading into Day 2."

Day 2: 1 Race and yet another different Winner
If Day 1 showed how competitive the fleet was, Day 2 reinforced it even further. Despite wind conditions only allowing for one race, there was another winner in KataBatic, making it 5 race winners from 5 races.

Monday's breeze unfortunately allowed for no further racing, before conditions shut down completely, but the atmosphere both on and off the water remained first class throughout. With the discard now in play, Khumbu Racing moved to the top of the overall standings, proving that consistency is key.

Khumbu Makes It Two from Two
After another weekend of exceptionally close racing, the Cape 31 fleet rounded off the event with well-earned celebrations in Poole. Khumbu Racing ultimately emerged victorious, making it two wins from two events in the 2026 Cape 31 UK season and further establishing themselves as the team to beat.

The real story of the weekend, however, was the extraordinary level of competition throughout the fleet. Multiple race winners, constant lead changes, and razor-thin margins ensured that every race remained exciting from start to finish. The Cape 31 class continues to showcase some of the closest and most entertaining keelboat racing in the UK, and Poole Bay once again provided the perfect stage for another memorable regatta.
